Offline POS or POS sales without an internet connection mean you can process sales in cloud-based software even when the internet is not available. As you know, in Cloud-based retail or online inventory management software, your store’s data and POS is on the web and you can access it from anywhere. It is just like logging in and accessing your Gmail, Yahoo or any other web-based application. And this goes without saying that the internet is what makes the online store possible.

But what if you could make sales in the offline mode as well? In other words, what if you could run your online store without the internet? However, before discussing this possibility let’s find out why would you want to make sales without the Internet! There is just one reason:

Access to the internet is temporarily unavailable.

Temporary disruptions in internet provision can happen and, of course, you don’t want to let your sales suffer because of internet issues. Moreover, offline sales make POS a lot faster.

So can you have the best of both worlds? Fast checkout experience plus no fear of internet disruption, and the convenience of running an online store?

Yes, you can.

Sales without Internet?  No problem

Configuring Nimbus for Offline Mode

Sales without internet in Nimbus are easy. You just need to mark one checkbox, and it is a one-time configuration. Go to Configuration>Sale tab and mark the checkbox Allow Offline Sales

Once this configuration is done, the application will automatically shift to the offline mode when the internet is not available:

Now process sales as you do in online mode: add products, receive payment in cash or credit/debit cards, print sales receipt, etc. As far as your credit customers are concerned, you can see their credit limit but their complete ledger will not be available in offline mode.

Whenever you are back in online mode, the sales made in the offline mode will automatically sync. You don’t need to do anything.

How does Offline Mode Work

When you process sales during the offline mode, all your sales data is stored in your local browser’s cache. All sales punched during offline mode are logged and when you shift to online mode and sync sales, the data is transferred to the cloud.

While Nimbus works with all browsers, Google Chrome is recommended. You can download Chrome here.

Warning: Don’t Clear the Cache

After working in the offline mode, make sure you don’t clear the cache of your browser. Since all your offline sales data is in the cache, clearing the history will also wipe out the data. Moreover, since all your data is automatically synced when you are online, it remains in the cache and the syncing of next offline sales will require less time. Clearing the cache means the application will have to sync the entire master data again which takes time.

Concluding Note

To be able to make offline sales in online retail software makes checkout experience faster for your customers and keeps you free from worries about internet issues.
